The Canadian Goalball team starts Paralympic action Friday

goalball_coachesThe Canadian Goalball team has landed in Rio in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Rio Paralympics!

ASRAB is proud to have three members set to compete for Canada in the Goalball event at the 2016 Paralympics.

We have:

  • Trent Farebrother (Red Deer) – Women’s Coach
  • Blair Nesbitt (Stony Plain) – Men’s Team
  • Darren Hamilton (Calgary) – Men’s and Women’s Assistant Coach

The full Canadian Goalball Team was announced in Toronto on August 26, 2016 –

The pools for the competition are:

Men’s pool A: Brazil, Algeria, Canada, Germany and Sweden

Men’s pool B: Finland, USA, Turkey, China and Lithuania

Women’s pool C: USA, Japan, Algeria, Brazil and Israel

Women’s pool D: Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Canada and China

The Opening Ceremonies will take place September 7, and the competition will run September 8-16.  The team will be training from now until the Games begin, and getting used to the Athletes Village and the competition venue.
