CALGARY – Try Blind Hockey with Courage Canada – Oct. 26

Courage Canada Hockey for the Blind is a national charity that leads the development of the sport of Blind Hockey, and provides children and youth with the opportunity to learn to skate and try Blind Hockey.

Courage Canada Hockey for the Blind is a national charity that leads the development of the sport of Blind Hockey, and provides children and youth with the opportunity to learn to skate and try Blind Hockey. Courage Canada has provided learn to skate programs for over 500 youth who are blind or partially sighted in 28 different communities across 8 provinces. Courage Canada works with the Blind Hockey teams across the country including the Calgary Seeing ice Dogs to develop and grow the great sport of Blind Hockey. Under the guidance of Courage Canada, the sport of Blind Hockey has become one of the fastest growing parasports in the country, and the annual Courage Canada National Blind Hockey Tournament is now among the largest sport events for athletes who are blind or partially sighted in Canada.

Come join us on Sunday for a Courage Canada Learn to Skate + Try Blind Hockey event where the first 30 minutes of the event is open to everyone who is blind or partially sighted – no skating experience needed – while the second half hour will feature an exhibition game that is open to anyone who has full hockey gear and enough skating ability to safely participate in the game. It’s the best way to experience the sport and meet your local Blind Hockey club in a fun and safe environment.

Courage Canada will have helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads on hand available for the learn to skate and try blind hockey participants. For those who wish to play in the scrimmage they will be required to bring full hockey gear. Participants are allowed to have 1 sighted family member / friend / guide join them for the learn to skate portion of the program (additional friends and family may have the opportunity to join depending on attendance), local blind and partially sighted hockey players as well as additional sighted volunteers will also be on hand to lend assistance to anyone who wants to participate in the learn to skate portion and requires assistance.

CALGARY PROGRAM SKATE RENTALS: For participants who do not own skates, skate rental is available in Calgary at Sports Rent located at 4424 16th Ave NW, www.sportsrent.ca.
