CYCLING

Tandem Cycling – Wednesdays

Tandem Cycling is a great way to feel stable and safe on a bicycle while zooming along the track at your own pace. Your pilot will be at the front of the bike, steering and guiding both of you. An experienced instructor will be on site to give helpful tips on cycling and piloting.
Location: Meet at Velodrome Lot C in North Glenmore Park (7305 Crowchild Trail SW)
Wednesdays, May 14th to September 10th, 2014
Times:
5 pm – 6:30 pm Youth (5-18 years old)
7 pm – 8:45 pm Adults (18+)
Bring: a properly fitting bicycle helmet, a water bottle, and a sighted friend who is at least your size as a pilot.

DANCE

Location: Pure Motion Dance Company #60 2525 Bridlecrest Way SW
When: 4 week program every Saturday starting April 11th and ending May 2nd 2015
Time: 12:30pm-1:30pm
Ages: 6-12
Dance Attire: Please wear comfortable, tight clothing that you can move in. If you have long hair please wear it up in a bun (we can help with hair on the first day). ASRAB will supply dance shoes.

*The first half of the class is Ballet and the second half is Tap.To register please e-mail your program coordinator with participant’s name, age, phone number and shoe size.

DRAGON BOAT

ASRAB has entered a visually impaired team in the Dragon Boating Festival, August 22-23rd, 2015. We require a minimum of 10 visually impaired participants who are able to fully commit to a total of six practices and to the festival itself.

GOALBALL

Children and Youth (Ages 6 – 16) on Sundays from November 2014 to April 2015

A unique team sport, goalball is specifically designed for people with visual impairments. No experience is necessary. Children and youth will learn the technical skills of goalball, and play this fun physical activity. ASRAB offers goalball programming from children to adults, so this sport can be part of their active life for years!

Where: Calgary French and International School  700-77 street SW
When: Sundays from November 9th, 2014 – April 19, 2014,
Time: 2 – 3 pm (Ages 6-16 years)

GYMNASTICS

All Ages – Two Wednesdays – November 26 and December 3, 2014
Come try out gymnastics with the University of Calgary! This two week program offers you basic gymnastic skills in a fun environment. All ages welcome! Please wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. Tight sweatpants or shorts are preferred. If you have long hair please wear it up and don’t forget to bring your smiles. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time to prepare!
Location: The University of Calgary Gymnastics Centre located in the Kinesiology building
Dates: Wednesday November 26th 2014 at 3:30 – 4:30 pm and Wednesday December 3rd at 4:30 -5:30 pm
Ages: This is an all ages event!
Register by: Friday November 21st 2014!

LAWN BOWLING

Try Lawn Bowling – Thursday July 24
Lawn bowling is an outdoor sport where the objective is to roll 4 balls across flat grass and have them stop close to a target ball. For people with visual impairments, a director guides them by telling them the direction and the distance in which to bowl the balls.

ASRAB invites members ages 16 and older to come out and try lawn bowling! All you need is a flat pair of shoes and a friend to be your director!

ROCK CLIMBING (All ages)

Have you ever wanted to try rock climbing? Now is your chance! This tactile activity allows you to discover your own climbing pathway on different indoor climbing walls!
Ages: 6 and up
Where: Calgary Climbing Centre located at 6-7130 Fisher Rd S.E
When: 4:30pm-6:30pm Sunday March 29th 2015

TAP DANCING

 Children’s Tap Class
Come try a fun, up beat and high energy tap dance class! Tap dance is a type of dance where special shoes called tap shoes are used to make different sounds with the feet. This class emphasizes rhythm, coordination and musicality in a positive, fun environment!
Ages: 6-10
Where: CNIB Basement
When:  Thursday, February 12th 2015-Thursday March 5th  from 6:00pm-7:00pm<

Welcoming teens to come try tap dance! This exciting class introduces students to different dance steps that create rhythms to match the music with your feet. This class emphasizes rhythm, coordination and musicality in a professional environment.

This is a great opportunity for adults to learn new abilities, or to brush up on old ones. Any skill level is welcome.

ASRAB is now offering yoga for children! Come enjoy the benefits of yoga and explore the different postures through play!

When: Four week program every Thursday, running April 9th- 30th 2015

WALKING CLUB

Come catch a breath of fresh air, Join the outdoor walking club hosted by ASRAB. This club introduces participants to different pathways around Calgary including the annual sight night pathway at Eau Claire.

Ages: All ages!
Where: To be announced! ASRAB’s Calgary Program Coordinator will e-mail out when and where a few days before. The first class will be at Eau Claire!
When: March 14th- March 28th 4:00pm – 3 week program running on Saturdays
