{"id":1749,"date":"2016-12-14T09:25:05","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T09:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asrab.ab.ca\/?p=1749"},"modified":"2016-12-14T09:36:52","modified_gmt":"2016-12-14T09:36:52","slug":"asrab-volunteer-recognized-by-stars-of-alberta-volunteer-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asrab.ab.ca\/?p=1749","title":{"rendered":"ASRAB Volunteer Recognized by  Alberta Volunteer Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"Dallas Ansell\" src=\"http:\/\/asrab.ab.ca\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/dallas-ansell.jpg\" width=\"170\" \/>Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards \u2013 Presented through Alberta Culture and Tourism<\/b><\/div>\n<p>The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize extraordinary Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members.<\/p>\n<p>Six awards, two in each category of youth, adult and senior are presented annually on or around International Volunteer Day, December 5.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Dallas Ansell &#8211; Edmonton<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Cold Lake and currently in his fourth year as a University of Alberta student, Dallas volunteers at numerous local organizations.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One of his most significant commitments is as a youth leader with Young Life East where Dallas currently mentors fifteen Grade 11 boys. Dallas is also heavily involved with the Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind (ASRAB), supporting visually impaired athletes. Dallas is involved with goalball and blind hockey and has helped to coach one of the ASRAB\u2019s athletes all the way to the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas\u2019 passion for assisting individuals with disabilities is not limited to sport. Dallas is also involved with the UAlberta\u2019s Exercise is Medicine (EIM) group that promotes the importance of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. He was instrumental in bringing the EIM movement to the University of Alberta. An accomplished competitive hockey player in his earlier years, Dallas now shares his experience and love of hockey as a first year head coach of the Parkland Athletic Club Bantam AA Saints hockey team.
