Meet your Alberta Paralympic Goalball Athletes!<\/h3>\n

\"BrieannBrieann Baldock<\/strong> is an Edmontonian competing in her second Paralympic games. She has always loved to play sports and be active.<\/p>\n

As well as an accomplished athlete, Brieann also coaches goalball with ASRAB, supporting youth players. Her personal philosophy is “Be open to trying new things and embrace challenges”.<\/p>\n

\"MeghanMeghan Mahon<\/strong> is competing in her third Paralympics and has been a member of the Canadian team since 2016. Mahon is originally from Timmins, ON. In 2017 she moved to Calgary to join the Alberta Goalball Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a competitive person” said Meghan “I love the opportunity to compete and be a role model for younger athletes to look up to”.<\/p>\n

\"TrentTrent Farebrother<\/strong> of Red Deer is the head coach of the Women\u2019s National Goalball Team and will be coaching this year at his third Paralympics.<\/p>\n

“The team has been working very hard since Tokyo, we’ve had good competitions in the last two years and we should be on top for Paris. We have an experienced team that should help us throughout the competition. We also have a world-class management staff.”<\/p>\n

What is Goalball?<\/h3>\n

Goalball is the only Paralympic sport designed exclusively for individuals with visual impairment. ASRAB is the official provincial sport organization for goalball in Alberta.<\/p>\n

Goalball was invented in 1946 to rehabilitate veterans with a visual impairment who returned from World War II. Athletes compete in teams of three and try to throw a ball with bells in it into the opponents\u2019 goal. The objective of the game is to throw the ball using a bowling motion into the opponent\u2019s net while the opposing players try to block the ball with their bodies.<\/p>\n
