ASRAB Members Win Bronze at the Goalball Clubs World Cup 2020!

Congratulations to three of ASRAB’s members who have just returned from competing in Lisbon, Portugal in the Goalball Clubs World Cup 2020, held November 24-27, 2021!

Blair Nesbitt, Aaron Prevost, and Aron Ghebreyohannes competed with the Vancouver GC team, along with ASRAB coach Darren Hamilton.

“It was a great tournament,” said coach Darren Hamilton. “It was great to get the men back and playing again after being away from international competition for so long.”

The team competed on November 27, 2021 in the bronze medal game, winning against the Quebec team!

Congrats again to Blair, Aaron, Aron, and Darren!!

Goalball Player Cards

We’d like to announce our new goalball player cards for the ASRAB provincial squad!

Each player has a card introducing them, along with their goals, career highlights, motivations, and more!

Here’s a sneak peak of Brieann Baldock’s answers on her player card, where she talks about her personal and team goals for goalball.

“My personal goals would be to keep pushing myself and keep up the drive and love for the sport. My team goal is to be a motivator to push my teammates to new levels and create a team morale of excellence.”

Nelson Régo Plays Edmonton League Game!

We’d like to congratulate ASRAB member and Edmonton SeeHawks goalie, Nelson Régo, on his debut in the Edmonton Hockey League! Régo played his first game with the league when one of his friends got injured before the game and Régo offered to fill in his spot as goalie.

His friend, John Hunter, thinks that Régo might be the first 100% blind player to play in an Edmonton league game and didn’t tell the referees until the game already started. Régo held his own, the team only losing by one goal, and Hunter attributed Régo’s goaltending to his “spidey senses.”

Régo, who plays for the Edmonton SeeHawks, was happy to have the opportunity to bring awareness to blind hockey.

“They made no accommodations for me,” Régo added. “It was just like being one of the guys on the team and that whole camaraderie thing that you get with a team that’s the thing that I really love the most.”
