We want to welcome back all our members and volunteers as we return to a full calendar of sports and recreation.

Let’s kick it off with a day of hiking, lunch and fun activities in beautiful Kananaskis!

Experts from Rocky Mountain Adaptive will join us to provide a guided hike in the morning and afternoon. We will also have a campfire and lawn activities to socialize as a group.

Where: William Watson Lodge, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (transportation to and from Calgary will be provided)

When: September 17th, 2022

Time:

Bus Departure 9:00am from the CNIB parking lot (10 11A St NE)

Bus Return 4:00pm to the CNIB parking lot (10 11A St NE)

Cost: Free for members, and families are welcome.

Movement for Me: Physical and Sport Literacy

Calling all kids! We want to help children with visual impairments to have a great start to an active life by focusing on developing fundamental movement skills.

Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding of movement for engagement in physical activities for life.

Sport Literacy is for previous students who have mastered the fundamental movement skills and are ready for more of a challenge. This program introduces sport specific skills that will set up members for success in recreational or sports activities.

Where: Bethany Chapel Gymnasium

When: September 22nd, 29th, October 6th

Time:

Physical Literacy: 6:30-7:30

Sport Literacy: 7:30-8:30

Cost: Free for Children and Youth

Try it! Disc Golf

We are partnering with the Calgary Disc Golf Club to offer a Try-it! Disc Golf. Disc Golf is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. This introduction has been adapted for individuals with vision loss. All ages and abilities welcome!

Where: North Glenmore Park, Parking Lot D (7305 Crowchild Trail SW)

When: September 15th

Time: 6pm to 8pm

Cost: Free for members

Try it! Tandem Cycling

Join us at Glenmore Park this September to try out Tandem Cycling! Tandem bicycles have two riders, The person in the front is the captain and the person in the rear is called the stoker. All ages are welcome!

Time: 5-8pm

Yoga

Weekly yoga is back this fall! Yoga is a spiritual discipline that uses breath control, relaxation techniques, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures to increase overall body health. Learn the techniques to a better mind, body and soul through yoga!

Where: Bridgeland Riverside Community Association located at 917 Centre Ave NE, Calgary, AB T2E 0C6

When: Weekly Tuesday Morning, September 13th to October 18th

Time: 10:30am to 12:00pm (please note this is a change from previous sessions)

Cost: Free for members

Age: Adults 18+

Walking Club

Walking club will be held at different parks and walking paths around the Calgary area. Walking Club will take place outdoors depending on weather conditions. Come enjoy the last of summer this August!

Dates: Every Sunday (weather permitting and excluding long weekends)

Time: From 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Where: Locations to be announced via e-mail after registration.
