We Introduce you to the Sight Night 2016 Honorary Chair, Tiana Knight!

sight night Calgary 2016 is pleased to announce Tiana Knight as the Honorary Chair of the event. Here is her story:

Tiana Knight

My name is Tiana Knight and I am 24 years old, going into my third year of law school, part of the Alberta provincial Goalball team and part of the national team pool of athletes for Goalball.

I lost all of my sight by the age of four.

Sports have always been important to my family, and my parents immediately got me into downhill skiing, figure skating and swimming. All of these activities were extremely fun and taught me a lot. But at age eleven I attended a CNIB summer camp where we were introduced to the sport of Goalball – and I was instantly hooked! ASRAB initiated the Alberta Junior Goalball program that same year, and I’ve been playing ever since.

ASRAB has done a fantastic job in building a Goalball program that has allowed me and many other athletes not only to develop as players but also as people. Goalball is one of the only team sports for individuals who are blind and visually impaired – and being part of a team has taught me life changing qualities such as leadership, teamwork, humility and a drive to succeed. With ASRAB’s help I was able to practice and train hard enough and become good enough to be chosen as a member of the Para Pan Am games last summer. I am also an alternate for the 2016 Rio Paralympics. None of this would have been possible without this wonderful organization.

sight night is our biggest fundraiser of the year and I ask that everybody comes out, participates, has fun and donates to ASRAB – which is an organization that truly helps to change lives.

I look forward to meeting you at sight night Calgary 2016!

Sincerely,
Tiana Knight
