Darren Hamilton
Position: Coach
How long have you played goalball?
I played 19 years. I have been coaching for 14 years.
What has been the highlight of your goalball career?
Competing at a Paralympic Games and competing at the higher elite level of competition. As a coach, my highlight would be coaching juniors and being the men’s and women’s senior National Canadian Team assistant coach.
What are your personal and team goals for goalball?
My goals are to help develop goalball players to be the best athletes they can be and help them achieve their goals. Taking a team of those athletes to work together cohesively as a unit and have them preform at their highest potential.
What other sports do you play?
I have played numerous sports but have only competed provincially or higher in cross country skiing, power lifting, and of course, goalball.
How has ASRAB helped you?
ASRAB has always provided the opportunities and guidance from volunteers and coaches to try, as well as compete, in different sports.
Have you participated in other ASRAB activities?
Yes, I have participated in many recreational and sporting activities with ASRAB over the years. Including sitting on the board and fundraising events.
What motivates you to continue to participate in sports and recreation with ASRAB?
My motivation comes from working with the great and inspiring athletes we have, along with some amazing volunteers and coaches.
Do you have any other personal philosophies on goalball and sport that you would like to share?
Set your goals high and push yourself to be the best that you can be, as a person and an athlete, to achieve those goals.
