Welcome Back Celebration!

We want to welcome back all our members and volunteers as we return to a full calendar of sports and recreation.

Let’s kick it off with a day of hiking, lunch and fun activities in beautiful Kananaskis!

Experts from Rocky Mountain Adaptive will join us to provide a guided hike in the morning, and there will be a variety of recreational activities in the afternoon.

Where: William Watson Lodge, Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (transportation to and from Calgary will be provided)

When: September 17th, 2022

Guided Tour through Fish Creek Park

The theme: Mindfulness in the Park

“Engage your body and mind as we explore the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations surrounding us in this beautiful natural landscape. Wellness walk facilitated by Charis Falardeau, Friends of Fish Creek Volunteer.”

Afterwards, please join for a beverage and visit at Annie’s Cafe.

Where: Fish Creek Park, Visitor Centre (15979 Bow Bottom Trail SE)

When: August 21st

Time: Walk 2:00pm to 3:30pm, visit to take place afterwards

Try it! Sailing

We are partnering with the Disabled Sailing Association of Alberta to offer a group sailing experience. It is accessible for all ages and abilities.

Where: 8415 24 ST. SW, DSAA Boatyard

When: August 24th

Time: 6pm to 7:30pm

Cost: $20 per member

Try it! Tandem Cycling

Join us at Glenmore Park this summer to try out Tandem Cycling! Tandem bicycles have two riders, The person in the front is the captain and the person in the rear is called the stoker. All ages and abilities are welcome!

Where: Glenmore Athletic Park

When: August 16th and 23rd

Time: 6-8pm

Cost: Free for members

Try it! Soccer

Come learn or practice your soccer fundamentals. Visually impaired soccer is played between two teams of players with an audible soccer ball. Learn how to dribble, pass and shoot!

Where: CNIB Building – 10 11A St NE

When: August 18th and August 25th

Time: 6pm-7pm

Walking Club

Walking club will be held at different parks and walking paths around the Calgary area. Walking Club will take place outdoors depending on weather conditions. Come enjoy the last of summer this August!

Dates: Every Sunday (weather permitting and excluding long weekends)

Time: From 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Where: Locations to be announced via e-mail after registration.

Programs Provided by Other Organizations

Adaptive Waterskiing presented by Waterski and Wake Alberta

“Give it a Go Days” to try water skiing, wakeboard and wakesurf. Everyone is welcome, any age, any ability. Your first clinic is free to attend!

When: August 13th and 20th, 2022.

Where: Predator Lake (Please note: Predator Bay is outside of city limits in Dewinton and as such is not serviced by Access Calgary or public transportation.)

Para Bowls Program presented by Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club

Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club has introduced a Para Bowls Program for children* and adults who are visually impaired or physically disabled and are eight (8) years of age and older.

Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club is located at 350 – 42 Avenue SW in Stanley Park. The clubhouse and lawn bowling green are located a short distance (on level asphalt sidewalk) from the “on site” Stanley Park car parking lot. All the equipment is provided. All that’s needed is a flat soled (heel less) pair of shoes and comfortable clothing.

Drop-ins are welcome to ‘Try Bowls” on every Tuesday evening starting at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm and every Thursday afternoon starting at 1:30pm to 2:30 pm during August. (Up to Tuesday August 30th).

The Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club Para Bowls Program Co-ordinators are Glen Burnelle and Kathryn MacGregor.
