Other Programs Around the City!

Ski for Light Canada

Ski for Light Canada is a week-long cross-country skiing event for blind and partially sighted adults. Each blind and low-vision participant has a dedicated, trained guide with whom they ski on the trails. Register now!

All individuals with a vision impairment are welcome and encouraged to attend Ski for Light Canada; whether you have never skied before, or if you are well-versed, come out and enjoy one of the best and most accessible winter outdoor activities for blind and low-vision persons. And, you can ski as little or as much as you like.

Staying active in the winter for those of us with vision-loss can be, I know, difficult; Ski for Light is an ideal way to get out and actually enjoy winter. And yes, winter really can be enjoyed!

I really do believe that cross-country skiing is so ideally suited to the likes of us. I can tell you from first-hand experience that, once I get my skis into the tracks, that, with some practice, I can ski as well as any other member of the general public.

Here are the highlights:

  • The 2025 Ski for Light event runs from Feb 2 thru Feb 8.
  • We are skiing at the world-famous Canmore Nordic Centre and staying at the lovely and full-service Chateau Canmore.
  • Your $700 registration includes 6 nights shared accommodations, all your meals, trail access and a dedicated guide.
  • Bursaries are available which will reduce your registration fee from $700 to $350.
  • Round-trip transportation from Calgary to Canmore as well as ski rentals can be arranged for a very low additional fee.
  • The week will be packed with both on and off snow activities.
  • Registration closes on Nov 30, so don’t delay! We are already 80% filled up.
  • Register at https://skiforlight.ca/register/.

Ski for Light Canada is incredibly grateful to the many sponsors to help offset the cost of the event. This price of registration is remarkably low and Ski for Light Canada encourages experienced and those new to the sport to take advantage of this awesome opportunity.

If you have any questions, call me – Peter Quaiattini – directly (my coordinates are below); I can answer all your questions and tell you more. Or send an email to info@skiforlight.ca

Hope to see you out – I know you will enjoy it!
